Each evening my husband, Dave, and I have been reading together a new devotional book, one I recently finished on my own. We are loving it. Dave says he appreciates the concise... and precise... pithy entries which quickly go straight to the mark. The readings encourage you to think the thoughts of Jesus, and keep your focus upon Him alone. Written in touching first-person as from Christ Himself, unique spiritual insights reach out and grab your heart and mind. The theme of Christ's peace flows throughout... and encourages enjoyment of His dear presence.
The book is Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence, by Sarah Young. I give it a hearty 5-stars! ***** Scripturaly sound... marvelously refreshing. Although new to us, it has been around since 2004, with subsequent journal, leather edition, and then other devotionals published. A children's version is soon to be released.
HOW WAS I SO LATE DISCOVERING THIS GEM??? Actually, I realize that the book came into our lives in God's timing.
Here is a sample entry from June 15 (my emphasis added):
When you approach Me in stillness and in trust, you are strengthened. You need a buffer zone of silence around you in order to focus on things that are unseen. Since I am invisible. you must not let your senses dominate your thinking. The curse of this age is over stimulation of the senses, which blocks out awareness of the unseen world.
The tangible world still reflects My Glory, to those who have eyes that see and ears that hear. Spending time alone with Me is the best way to develop seeing eyes and hearing ears. The goal is to be aware of unseen things even as you live out your life in the visible world.
2 Corinthians 4:18; Isaiah 6:3; Psalm 130:5
Amazon readers have left a significant 240 reviews... still maintaining a 5-star rating.
Mardel Christian Bookstore normally keeps about 20 in stock, but when I tried to get one this week for a gift... they were completely out. It is that popular. Now... popular does not always mean quality. BUT IN THIS CASE IT DOES! I now even keep the audio version in my car.
It is so refreshing to find a devotional book of this depth and purity written by a contemporary author. Thank you, Sarah Young! I am adding one more thing to my "bucket list." I would love to meet and talk with Sarah! (I know... don't tell me! We will meet in Heaven one day.)
Thinking ahead to meaningful Christmas gifts? I am. So I'm buying multiple copies of JESUS CALLING... a devotional book, at least in this humble woman's opinion, which will join the ranks of the Christian Classics.
