I'm on a Texas Round-Up...lookin' to round-up as many Texas quarters as possible before I return to INDIA this January. I use them when I teach American culture, with special emphasis on Texas, naturally. You should hear the INDIAN children sing with gusto the song I taught, "Deep in the Heart of Texas," complete with the clap-clap-clap-clap part.
Also, one of these quarters makes the perfect token gift to give to the children, as most of them have heard of Texas. INDIA produced movies with cowboys are common, and I might add, hilarious to our American ideas. Kind of old-fashioned Roy Rogers...but Indian style and setting. I couldn't quite get accustomed to tigers and monkeys in a cowboy movie...or a cowgirl in a sari.
On his first visit to this country, our friend from INDIA had fun playing around...cowboys and INDIANS. When teaching in INDIAN schools, I discovered the children had never heard of American Indians. Delightedly, the littlest ones learned the song, "Ten Little Indians." They thought it was written just for them!
So far I've collected this many Texas quarters, with the help of a caring friend. Doesn't look like very many, does it? That's because they are hard to find. We loyal Texans like 'em...and hoard 'em. So if you are going through the change in your wallet or pocket, and discover one of these little gems, please consider contacting me...and join the Round-Up!
