Celebrating Thanksgiving 2008 with Mom was an answer to our family's prayers, and she certainly did enjoy the day! She could only sample the array of food: the ham, the deep fried Cajun turkey with seafood dressing plus the family's traditional sausage dressing, the yams, the corn and the green bean casseroles, Lyn's orange-pineapple jello salad, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce and yeast rolls. What a spread it was!
But the best part of the feast for her was a sliver of the pumpkin pie made by her grandson Matt. You see, in past holidays Mom always made her signature pumpkin pies, producing enough to send an entire pie home with each family. Being too ill for that task this year, Matt asked her to teach him the art. So she told him the recipe, and watched while he whipped up two pies. She was even able to show him how to crimp the edges of the pie crust. Making those pies spelled real L-O-V-E to Mom.
Mom has such pride in all of her grandchildren, shown pictured here from youngest to eldest. (Josh and Mallory were not able to come.) Each one, within their own giftings and unique personalities, have reached out to their Grandma in this season of her life and have left indelible love-prints upon her heart.
We give You thanks, O Lord, for the blessing of FAMILY...and LOVE...and LAUGHTER...and the JOY of a holiday season spent together.
